I'm interested in the bike for 2 reasons: 1) communting on West Whitehall to PSU and 2) hubby had knee surgery. Would this bike easily handle a West Whitehall Road commute? Thanks! I live on West Whitehall and am interested in this bike for two reasons: hubby had knee surgery and I want to use it to commute to PSU. Do you think the bike would be good for a Whitehall Road Commute? Thanks! I didn't notice so much whether or not the bike was helping me as I went up the hill (Pine Street) from 12th Ave up to 15th Ave because it did definitely get my heart racing, but I did feel like I was going WAY faster than I would without an electric assisted bike.

I haven't regularly rode a bicycle in about 12 years but I just got a job about 4 miles away in Sodo (South Downtown Seattle) and this bike will be perfect - all downhill or flat to work in the morning, and all flat then uphill on the way home (I will only stink when I get home if I do at all so it will be an easy shower).

Overall, I took a 10 minute test drive and felt as if I was flying around town. The advantage of this over a moped is that you will surely get longer life out of the bike (with the exception of the batteries), don't have to buy fuel, get a descent workout, still have fun and go fast, do not have to license the bike (as compared to the moped I was looking at getting) and you can take it just about anywhere.

The main advantages of getting this over (or along with) a moped are as follows:

Workout
Green (no gas or emissions - from the bike anyway)
Low cost of ownership
Quick
Fun
Light enough to carry up stairs
Fairly comfortable
Descent ride and controlKrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08388647420152324305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20314803.post-71129027764405973412009-07-08T12:28:30.314-04:002009-07-08T12:28:30.314-04:00I bought mine a week ago and I love the bike. I am commuting regularly (first week) a five and half mile journey each way with a couple of good steep climbs, I only ride it in sport setting and the bike is just managing two return trips (22 miles) off one battery. Yesterday it rained very heavily and I rode it through some deep water and in heavy rain without any electrical problems.
Everyone who has had a test ride on it has come back with a grin, one saying, 'That's cheating'. Well! it might be, but what price that grin.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00131603784634253937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20314803.post-54903649234888438102009-03-22T10:41:00.000-04:002009-03-22T10:41:00.000-04:00Thanks for the review, these are hard to find on t...Thanks for the review, these are hard to find on this bike: Reviews from magazines are worthless, they always read like they were paid for.

The part about leaving the bike out of the rain is pretty disappointing. I rarely go a month without experiencing precipitation on my commute. I realize many folks might never want to ride in the rain but if you ride a lot it'll happen on accident eventually.

It should be possible to seal the electronics to handle rain.re-cyclehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12068385546676548206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20314803.post-10210586823966070662008-11-20T18:33:00.000-05:002008-11-20T18:33:00.000-05:00We bought a Giant Twist Freedom for my wife, for a...We bought a Giant Twist Freedom for my wife, for an 11 mile uphill commute to work. Here are a few thoughts:

Design, material and build quality are all outstanding. This bicycle is higher quality than Gazelle utility bikes, which are widely regarded as the best such bikes in the world (I have two of them).

The motor is highly capable, even on quite steep slopes.

Everything works exceptionally well with this bike--the double battery design is an order of magnitude improvement over all other e-bikes, not only because you get double the range, but because this allows the batteries to be discharged optimally to maximize longevity.

My wife is a very serious cyclist, and she loves the ride and handling of the Twist Freedom. Handling is improved greatly by changing the stock handlebars for a set of bars that are lower rise.

There are a few useful options. 1) a Brooks B-67S saddle; 2) a sidewall dynamo and generator headlight (the B&M Cyo light is the best). The fork manufacturer, Suntour, has an optional bracket for the fork that allows use of a sidewall dynamo. 3) There are optional much larger panniers that are sold in Holland for this bike--we bought a set at a Dutch dealer, but www.electricbikesnw.com is intending to distribute the larger panniers. 4) Finally, the stock handlebars are terrible. A much better set for this bike are the Milan bars sold at www.velo-orange.com.msrwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16405671873250914126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20314803.post-59862235975132998952008-01-14T07:32:00.000-05:002008-01-14T07:32:00.000-05:00Great post especially the part about the Moes bein...Great post especially the part about the Moes being the best caching friends one can have!2 Guy's Named Moe's Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10158207249675227182noreply@blogger.com
